Welcome to My Classroom

Please find a seat and get out your book and a pen or a pencil.
This is an assignment we had to do, to draw up how we would arrange our classroom. We were given 20 or so requirements that had to be included. I used Microsoft Visio to draw this diagram up. It was pretty fun! I included a plant at the front of the room just for fun. Oh, and if you brought an apple you can place it on my desk.

  1. fun!

it looks like a great room. i agree the plant was a good idea.

i don't know about your back being to the door. i like to be able to glance up and see entrants.

is that a projection stand at the front? cool!

  2. The quality of the picture really drops off when you click on it to expand, but the actual document looks really sweet. (That's one drawback with Visio. You should be able to save as a jpg or pdf without any quality change.) Yes, that is a projector and screen in the front. There is a long whiteboard/chalkboard on the top wall and a long window on the bottom wall (no glare on computer screens that way). I hadn't thought about having my back to the door. I agree that is a bad idea, but I don't plan on being in my desk much. Still, I will make the change and update the layout. I am a up & walking around type of instructor, plus all direct instruction would be done from the front of the room. Plus I love the idea of the teacher's desk at the back and all the desks facing away so I can do a quick scan of all the monitors from the back and see where everyone is at (and who is trying to check their email.) The two things on the wall by the door are supposed to be pencil sharpeners but since visio didn't have any graphics for them, I had to use the architectural symbol for an electrical outlet. Thanks for the tip, stoppable. I welcome any other critiques!

  5. I think schulerin is browsing w/firefox now, and likely needs a plugin to view the graphic.

i like the new desk orientation -- great to have a chair next to the desk to encourage visitors.

  6. I found it interesting your desk was at the back, as an elementary teacher I always have my desk looking staight at the kids. But I don't have to monitor computers either. I like the layout. Plants, no, maps, lots of them. i am not good with any kinds of plants.
